The Trend Is Character
Some floors look so fake. Like 70's plastic. Goodness what were they thinking. Even today some people coat floors in heavy coats of cheap plastic and just live with the look as it yellows and ages.
In recent times people have been looking for timber floors to have character. Rather than the bland all one colour sort of flooring that we associate with the cheap plastic floors, people want to see the knots, the grain, the gun veins that make a timber floor real. The industry has responded by introducing more grades of flooring. Whereas at one-time [and in fact in many locations these days it is still the case] only one grade was available, it is now possible to obtain different grades of flooring. In recent times many people have gone for a character or rustic grade as opposed to what may be termed the clean and plain looking grade.
Character Grade Blackbutt is a favorite. A rich character floor with good light tones and one of Australia's favorite and most durable hardwoods. Character Marri. A character grade Marri floor is just stunning. We use solid hardwood Marri on our showroom but we would be just as happy using an engineered Marri in the classic character grade that is now available. Happily most people want a timber floor to look real. It is always possible to tell the difference between something that looks fake and something that looks real. Having said that laminate floors are actually a very good long-term proposition as long as you get a good quality floor to begin with. We would have no difficulty in recommending laminate floors for use in bedrooms and office areas although they don't look as good as the real thing or even real timber engineered floors in the main living areas.
